It has been an absolutely fantastic weekend at the cottage, you have just been amazing, providing us with what we wanted/needed and being on the other end of the phone at all times. The cottage is beautiful and everything we could have wished for on a lovely weekend away

Entertainment Galore

West Acre was primarily built for comfort and entertaining. The social hub of the house is a very generous main lounge which has three large leather sofas set around a large low oak table all facing the central stone fireplace housing a wonderfully cosy log burning stove. Perfect for getting everyone together and playing one of our huge selection of family games, or setting down together to watch the huge Smart TV with surround sound, DVD player, You View and Netflix.

In the second lounge there is a PS4 and Xbox 360. When here why not spin one of the many vinyls supplied on the house turn table, an old school contrast to the up to date integrated Sonos music system. Operated from either the house tablet supplied with Spotify or by linking your own phone to the music system, you can play any music of your choice around the whole ground floor.

In the dining room, when you have finished eating, why not turn the dining room into a games room by flipping over the table top to reveal a full size slate bedded pool table.

There is also a large separate cinema room with a high definition projector, cinema surround sound and a huge library of DVDs. Just pull down the blackout blinds to create that perfect cinema experience.

This house suited all our needs for the weekend from partying in the hot tub, relaxing in the sauna, Twister in the games room, cooking big Sunday dinners and cooked breakfasts as well as the surround sound music system to prepare us for a fab night out.

Cooking and Entertaining in style

With its state of the art kitchen diner at the heart of West Acre, this is a home built for entertaining. Its kitchen has everything even the most adventurous cook could wish for.

A large island in the centre of the kitchen houses an induction hob with a pop up extractor fan. Surrounding the island you will find a standard oven, a large oven, a microwave, a steam oven, warming drawers, two fridges, one of which is an American style fridge with an ice and water dispenser, a coffee machine, a boiling water tap, a dishwasher and two sinks.

The table in the kitchen seats 8, the kitchen area then opens up into the generous dining hall with a central oak table that can comfortably seat 12 adults. Before dinner why not settle down with a pre-dinner cocktail made from our gorgeous ‘honesty bar’ drinks trolley?

For alfresco dining, on the patio we have a huge outdoor dining area that sits over 16 people; there is also covered seating in the African hut where 12 adults can comfortably sit around a central table. The 6 burner gas BBQ will be kept well and truly busy.

Great facilities loved the hot tub and cinema room. Chef loved the kitchen and we kept him busy! The dogs were well catered for, they loved the garden. Beautiful house, we couldn’t ask for anything more. Can’t wait to return.

Relax and pamper yourself

Without doubt one of the main wow factors at West acre is the stunning and completely private large south west facing terrace, the glass panels allow you to look over open fields. We have seen an abundance of local wildlife including pheasants, owls, bats, foxes and even deer, but the highlight has to be the sunsets, at their very best enjoyed with a cocktail on a warm summers evening.

The terrace is the perfect spot for our large hot tub, we also have  a seating area and a couple of sun loungers. The terrace is fitted with outside lighting so it can be enjoyed both in the day or into the evening, it even has an adjoining kitchenette with fridge to keep those drinks chilled and handy.

But the relaxation and pampering does not end there, with robes and slippers provided for every guest; you can move between the outdoor hot tub area to the indoor Swedish sauna or even the whirlpool bath in the master bedroom suite.

Finally after all the pampering why not curl up and put your feet up downstairs in front of that cosy wood burning stove, the fire is always a firm favorite with our four legged friends.

Family get together & send-off to Australia

Location - was not so important to us because we were getting together and not really planning to go out. But we did go out to the local pub and also had a takeaway delivered to the house.

Host Support & Welcome - Amazing

Value for Money - definitely. It's a really big house.

We loved the pineapple challenge, everyone was trying to find them.

Everything we needed was there for us.

Any Suggestions?

We felt the house would benefit from a downstairs shower room - but we are aware you have already dealt with this.

Outside lighting could be brighter, although we were there in the winter and it wouldn't be as important in the summer.

Hen Party

We couldn't praise them enough. It was all the little touches, like when we realised we had forgotten stuff like shampoo, we opened the cupboard and there was everything we needed with a little note saying "help yourself".

All the information for the gadgets was there, although we still managed to put the hot tub to sleep!

None of us have ever stayed anywhere like this before and is totally "up there" in the ratings.

Hen Weekend

We couldn't fault it. Jeff and Vicki were so "to hand" and they go out of their way to sort anything for you. Very welcoming, and we felt really comfortable there.

We didn't expect the pictures on the website to be as real as they were.

There is so much to do, even by the Sunday we felt we hadn't used all of the facilities, like the table tennis, or used the cinema room enough.

The house lends itself to entertaining, you don't need to do anything yourself, it's all there.

Any Suggestions?

Mike's 80th Birthday

Location - not a real issue, but some of our younger members of the party would have liked the facility of a village shop; they went into Selby instead which was fine.

Everybody was highly delighted. Vicki advised that the garden wasn't dog-proof but we kept the dogs on long leads to begin with but when we let them off, it was fine.

Any Suggestions?

Downstairs bedroom had two double beds which were allocated to the three youngest of the family and it would have suited better if there had been the option for singles as the two younger brothers (12 & 14 years) didn't want to share.

A shower room on the ground floor is a good idea.

Family get together

We had such a fabulous time. It was expensive but we got what we paid for.
Daughter was only able to stay on the Friday night and we were given the opportunity to have a later departure on Monday but unfortunately we all had to be at work.
Hosts were so helpful. Spoke to Vicki quite a few times and she texted a lot, giving information on places to eat, even sending menus.

Just fabulous - we had house-envy.
Plenty for all of us to do, and it didn't feel as if there were 14 people in the house as some were playing pool or table tennis, or having a basketball tournament.
We have recommended it to lots of people.

Any Suggestions?
The only thing was the upstairs fridge wasn't working.

Jill's 40th Birthday

Host Support & Welcome - Jeff was amazing and the correspondence with Vicki was fantastic.
Beautiful house. The photos on the website are fantastic but they don't show just how big the house is, it's amazing.
Happy for you to use our photos. We loved playing rounders and the garden is so big there was no chance of losing the ball.
Just an absolutely ideal location. Couldn't ask for any more. Vicki was at the end the phone any time - even answering a text in the evening about hairdryers.
The cupboards were well stocked, and everything you could need for any occasion was provided, indoors and outdoors.
It's Judith's 50th next year and we are definitely going to come back. The decor is beautiful and everything is amazing.

Any Suggestions?
The sign for the house is tiny. We only found it because we knew to look for the nursery. It should have a bigger sign which would reflect what a fabulous property it is.

Mum's 80th Birthday

Location- We didn't want to go back into Selby so we went to the next village for some shopping (Cawood Pickled Postie). They were very helpful and let us have some bits and pieces they had in the kitchen.

Hosts went over and above. Vicki couldn't have been nicer.

We loved the house, it's fabulous. We would have had more value for money had we stayed for 5 days, but it was our choice to just have 3 days.

It is a beautiful property. We would definitely recommend it.

Any Suggestions?

A parasol on the roof terrace would have been useful. Mum kept going to sit in the African hut for some shade when she got to hot.

Things To Do

Welcome To Yorkshire

Taking just 250 years to build, York Minster is a mightily impressive building and the dominant landmark in the city. One of Northern Europe’s most beautiful Gothic cathedrals, it’s grand proportions are matched only by the quality of it’s craftsmanship.

You don’t have to be a train enthusiast to enjoy the National Railway Museum. They’ve got over 200 years of rail history under one giant roof. There’s iconic locomotives, lovingly recreated stations and over one million objects.

More Information:

Officially the most picturesque street in Britain, this street of timber framed shops is high on the list of things to see in York. Dating back to the later medieval period, The Shambles used to be home to the city’s butchers and it’s sloping cobbles would’ve been awash with the by-products of their trade.

More Information:

Housed in a former prison, York Castle Museum has over 400 years of York’s history on display. The home of Kirkgate, a reconstructed Victorian street, the museum also has other period rooms including a Victorian parlour, Jacobean dining room and a 1950s kitchen.

We would really recommend pre-booking a slot as the queues especially in peak holiday time can be enormous.

The full walk is about 2 miles and takes up to two hours, the views of York from the walls are some of the best in the city. You can however you can just walk a section of the walls, our favourite two bits are round the side of the minster, giving some great views of the Minster or over the river from the top of Micklegate down to the river which is one of the most picturesque parts with another must have photo opportunity looking from the walls down into the city.

More Information:

Based upon the London Dungeons, the York version is a scary and fun filled journey through York’s dark past with loads of interactive elements and special effects to bring to the exhibits to life. Normally a winner with the teenagers in the group. It takes about an hour and a half to complete.
