Entertainment Galore

When it comes to luxury Yorkshire holiday cottages West Acre stands out, it was designed by your hosts Jeff and Vicki with entertaining in mind. The social hub of the house is a very generous main lounge which has three large leather sofas set around a large low oak table all facing the central stone fireplace housing a wonderfully cosy log burning stove. Perfect for getting everyone together and playing one of our huge selection of family games, or setting down together to watch the huge Smart TV with surround sound, DVD player, You View and Netflix.

In the second lounge there is a PS4 and Xbox 360. When here why not spin one of the many vinyls supplied on the house turn table, an old school contrast to the up to date integrated Sonos music system. Operated from either the house tablet supplied with Spotify or by linking your own phone to the music system, you can play any music of your choice around the whole ground floor.

In the dining room, when you have finished eating, why not turn the dining room into a games room by flipping over the table top to reveal a full size slate bedded pool table.

There is also a large separate cinema room with a high definition projector, cinema surround sound and a huge library of DVDs. Just pull down the blackout blinds to create the perfect cinema experience.

This house suited all our needs for the weekend from partying in the hot tub, relaxing in the sauna, Twister in the games room, cooking big Sunday dinners and cooked breakfasts as well as the surround sound music system to prepare us for a fab night out.

Cooking and Dining in style

Luxurious Yorkshire Cottages

With its state of the art kitchen diner at the heart of West Acre, this is a home that has everything even the most adventurous cook could wish for.

A large island in the centre of the kitchen houses an induction hob with a pop up extractor fan. Surrounding the island you will find a standard oven, a large oven, a microwave, a steam oven, warming drawers, two fridges, one of which is an American style fridge with an ice and water dispenser, a coffee machine, a boiling water tap, a dishwasher and two sinks.

The table in the kitchen seats 8, the kitchen area then opens up into the generous dining hall with a central oak table that can comfortably seat 12 adults and can be extended to fit up to 16.

For alfresco dining, on the patio we have a huge outdoor dining area that sits over 16 people; there is also covered seating in our thatched African hut where 12 adults can comfortably sit around a central table. Our large cast iron charcoal smoker BBQ will be kept well and truly busy.

Great facilities loved the hot tub and cinema room. Chef loved the kitchen and we kept him busy! The dogs were well catered for, they loved the garden. Beautiful house, we couldn’t ask for anything more. Can’t wait to return.

Relax and pamper yourself

Without doubt one of the main wow factors at West acre is the stunning and completely private large south west facing terrace, the glass panels allow you to look over open fields. We have seen an abundance of local wildlife including pheasants, owls, bats, foxes and even deer, but the highlight has to be the sunsets, at their very best enjoyed with a cocktail on a warm summers evening.

The terrace is the perfect spot for our large 6 seater Jacuzzi hot tub, we also have  a seating area and even a couple of sun loungers. The terrace is fitted with outside lighting so it can be enjoyed both in the day or into the evening, it also has an adjoining kitchenette with fridge to keep those drinks chilled and handy.

But the relaxation and pampering does not end there, with robes and slippers provided for every guest; you can move between the outdoor hot tub area to the indoor Swedish sauna or even the whirlpool bath in the master bedroom suite.

Finally after all the pampering why not curl up and put your feet up downstairs in front of that cosy wood burning stove, our fire is always a firm favorite with those four legged friends.

Holiday

We have stayed as a group of friends at West Acre on several occasions. The accommodation is second to none with every comfort you could wish for. There is plenty of room for everyone to have space - 2 lounges, a dining/pool room and large kitchen diner downstairs - all bright rooms with ample seating. The well-stocked tv room provides a cosy place to while away a rainy afternoon, whilst the hot tub and sauna put the icing on the cake come rain or shine. The beds are very comfy and the master bedroom is perfect for anyone celebrating a special occasion, giving direct access to a very large ensuite, the sauna and the roof top hot tub. The garden is beautiful with excellent play facilities for children. The attention to detail is outstanding but, if you found something wanting, I'm sure Jeff and Vicky would sort it out quickly and without fuss. As hosts, we have always found Jeff and Vicky amazing. From the welcome pack on arrival to the maintenance of the property, they leave no stone unturned. They are a delightful couple who make you feel at home. As you can probably guess, I would highly recommend West Acre and we have already booked our next weekend there. Thank you, Jeff and Vicky.

Family Stay for Hogmanay

Hi,

We had a great NY stay at West Acre after being covid cancelled last year.

Jeff, Vicki & Nathan were fantastic before, during and even after our stay.

The house is a great mix of R&R but also party central if you wish.

Location (Wistow) is great for dog walks, people walks haha & is 5 minutes away from the nearest town - Selby, which has everything you need.

York is a 25 min drive away too and is a nice drive up.

One piece of advice from me to other potential visitors is download and read their app, it literally has everything you need prior, during and after your stay.

Jeff & Vicki are very attentive & at your service if you need them, like we did on occasion for minor issues.

Thoroughly recommend West Acre for a family/group holiday - it has it all.

Hope to revisit in the future.

Many thanks,

Bill & Ashleigh Ewing

Family Celebration

We stayed at this superb house again and was not disappointed. The care and consideration that has gone into this accommodation makes your stay so special. Even in Covid times, the owners have managed to keep all the features that ensure each member of the our party had something to enjoy! We thoroughly enjoyed movie time in the private cinema, board games round the cosy wood burner and used our favourite table for both our 50th birthday party meal and many a pool match! Oh and all the while being entertained by the music system! Mustn’t forget another highlight was spending our evenings in the Hot tub star gazing…simply stunning!
All our party, from 10-80 years, really recommend this amazing holiday home where the hosts go the extra mile to make your stay the best it can possibly be.

Family Celebration

What an absolute gem of a place! From the moment we arrived we were stunned by the “wow” factor - the love and attention gone in to this home (that’s what it feels like after 10mins) is surpasses only by the luxury touches at every turn! Our group (8-80yrs) all fell in love with West Acre, and it’s certainly an achievement pleasing everyone! From watching movies in the Cinema room, relaxing in the Hot Tub and Sauna, spinning vinyls old school style to Killer Pool competitions and a marathon “Risk” game - there was so much to keep us busy. Despite the uncertain weather we even got some Table Tennis in too! There really is enough to keep you entertained here for weeks...in fact I’d be more than happy to test that!
The grounds are set back in a beautiful village with a fab Fish & Chip shop but close enough to more hustle and bustle if that’s what you want. We visited the local pub (walkable) and were impressed by the local’s friendliness. We also sampled the Carvery at the local Golf club, we found it thoroughly enjoyable and had the weather not been changeable (or the fact I squeezed a indulgent pudding in) we would have liked to have a go on the Driving range.

The hosts cannot be praised enough either, Jeff and Vicki helped make the holiday all the more special with the reassuring contact and advice, a beautiful welcome pack and even offering to collect something for us that saved us a trip! After having the pleasure to meet them both it is clear to see how they have created something so special being so lovely themselves! It’s impressive what can be achieved when people clearly love what they do and do it so well! I almost don’t want to share how fabulous it is here as it feels like our special place but that in itself means I simply have to recommend it anyone looking for somewhere amazingly spectacular to create some life lasting memories! If in doubt, go for it.....you will NOT be disappointed! The only downside was not staying longer, having to leave at all (we did a one point start discussing squatters rights) oh and not finding the time to try out the Pickled Postie....sounded lovely!
Jeff and Vicki - thank you both again for making our break so special, we look forward to visiting again in the future!

Love, love, love West Acre and the personalised experience that Jeff and Vicki have offered during both of our stays. The welcome hamper is a lovely touch. All amenities are exceptional. The newly installed 6 seater hot tub is luxurious. The lift is a bonus. We used several of their recommendations this visit: Chloe’s Table; Carol’s Yoga; RSPB Fairburn Ings; Lotherton Hall. All great!

60th birthday celebration for mum

Hot tub went down a treat. House alarm went off on Sunday morning, woke everyone up, didn't know how to turn it off. Didn't want to ring Jeff & Vicky as they were away but had to. But it was fine. Torrential rain so the challenge was keeping everyone entertained from a 86 year old to a 6 week old baby.

It was brilliant. Rained solidly for 2 days but still had an amazing time. So much bigger than it looks in the photos. 2 year old loved the train set. Mum loved the decor. Kitchen was amazing. Felt like you could make yourself at home.

Struggled with the heat when they arrived but it was 32 degrees. Bought some big cooling fans from a discount superstore. Fine after that. Not Jeff & Vicky's fault. Couldn't find the croquet set and another game missing but nothing major.

Pickled Postie lunch - they were really lovely. Catered for us on the Sunday really good value for money and really friendly. Very welcoming. Great service without being intrusive. Mum loved it.

I've never been to a better house that has everything, fabulous darling. It was class.
Hot tub cleaned every day.
Only an 8 for location was because the local pub was closed for refurbishment. And the house needs a better sign.

Hen Party

Dishwasher didn't work very well, but Jeff had said the tablets were not coming out very well so it needs looking at. A couple of times it hadn't worked properly.
Everything else was spot on. Hoping to get back as a family for a long weekend next year, we liked it that much. Everybody was really impressed.
Couldn't fault it and it was exactly what we were looking for, they had thought of everything and there was nothing they hadn't got.

Hi Christina, thanks so much for the review, we are so pleased that Lindsay, yourself and the whole group seem to have had such a great time, it would obviously be really great to see you again at some point in the future. I think we may have hopefully fixed the dishwasher issue, found the water jets had been blocked by strands of a paper label, all cleared now so hopefully it is working properly again. We are also thinking about installing a second dishwasher as part of the next phase of improvements. All the very best Jeff and Vicki x

Sisters hen Party

Attention to detail was perfect, with little bits around the house, and the box with supplies for anything you may have forgotten. The way they communicated makes you feel you know them before you arrive. Advice from Jeff and Vicki was great - even when the first taxi firm let them down, they organised another, the cocktail experience, and the Pickled Postsie was excellent.

The rooms are big, number of cookers, variety of crockery and utensils. The only issue we had was with the dishwasher. The only observation was that the dishwasher wasn't big enough for the number of people in the house. Perhaps a second dishwasher in the utility room might be an idea.

We would love to come back.

60th and 80th family birthdays

Everything was great. Jeff & Vicki have thought of everything. We liked having the speakers in every room.

The only thing mentioned was that access to the sauna is either through the master bedroom or the roof terrace. But we had locked the door from the roof terrace from the inside which meant the only way in was to disturb the people in the master bedroom - but that was largely our fault for not thinking about it.

We would definitely want to come back. My sister's getting married in October and whilst we haven't thought about a hen party yet, it could be an option.

Hi Hannah, Thanks for your kind comments and it would be lovely to see you again at some point. I am afraid access to the sauna is something that we just cannot do anything about, we know going via the master bedroom is not a perfect solution and we will make sure this is clear for future guests. Group get together

Location: Some of the group felt there were not many walks around, and the countryside was 'a bit flat'.

Host support & welcome: Tremendous. Sometimes people are not not there when you arrive. It was very good to be shown around and told how everything works.

Loved it. When there are 10 people, all different, it is good to have different options. Some didn't use the hot tub or sauna. We used it every day and loved it. But you can't all do the same things, and it works better when there are different options. Some went to York for the day but we enjoyed the facilities of the house and surroundings instead.

New Years & 50th Birthdays

Location depends on what you are looking for. Some of us came from Edinburgh, some from London so it was pretty central. Good.

Vlue for money - you spend the money to have a good week and we had a good week.

Hosts were absolutely first class. Jeff was just so helpful and willing, don't know how he finds the energy, doing the Jacuzzi some time in the morning and help with any issues, not that there were any.

Property excellent. what was amazing is that it's like a TARDIS; even though we were a lot of people, we didn't ever feel we couldn't drift off and find space for ourselves. Not the prettiest of buildings, but I couldn't have cared, it was ideal.

Any Suggestions?

Would have to think long and hard for any suggestions. I was really impressed, nothing to add, genuinely. If they want to go and build a swimming pool that would be great, but they have a Jacuzzi.

Christmas 2018

In terms of the hosts building up to the visit, they were fantastic in terms of keeping you updated, and the welcome pack was very detailed. Any questions they were quick to answer. Very prompt, very efficient. Made sure everything was built around you, like the time of the welcome meeting, good communication.

The house - you could see a lot of attention to detail had gone into it, and it was useful that there were different areas; we were a family of different generations so people could go off and do what they wanted in different rooms.

We are definitely looking at opportunities to come back again.

Any Suggestions?

Family Get- Together

A really amazing place and fantastic for people of all ages; we couldn't fault it and the rest of the family would echo that. The property just kept on giving. Even allowing for the fact that the time of year meant the barbeque wasn't an option, the kids played football outside. Loved that they could be all together or in separate rooms to have time away from each other. Cinema room was "wow". We have never spent this amount of money before but considering the facilities, it was definitely excellent value for money. Having stayed in cottages before, we took some sharp knives, chopping boards and other bits and pieces but we didn't need any of it. Never had an ice dispenser before or a boiling hot water tap.

We would like to come back, although we can see there are a lot of bookings for next year so maybe 2020. We highly recommend it.

Location good - close to York.

A lot of contact with they felt was perhaps a bit over the top until they met Jeff. When they got there they understood the reason for it, to make sure everything is right. Some cottages you get no contact at all. It was fine for them but some other people might think it's a bit much.

Impressed with the hosts. Accommodation was spot on. Will definitely be coming back, possible for mum in May 2020.

The property was brilliant; clean, modern, cosy, things like the pool table being able to be switched from the dining table.

For how many people we had in the house it was never crowded.

Cake was a gorgeous touch, the emergency cupboard was a brilliant idea, flowers in the kitchen.

Sitting outside was gorgeous, we sat out by the hot tub the view was fantastic.

Parents paid for it and Dad would say it was expensive but it's high-end.

Very well thought out, like the beepers on the back door and cinema room so we knew where the children were. It's things like that you pay the extra for.

The property is so well thought out, like lots of electrical points, coat hangers.

Didn't meet Jeff but met Vicki and felt comfortable calling them if necessary.

The personal touches that Vicki and Jeff incorporate are outstanding- the hamper, the fresh flowers and the cake; also the tour of the house, and the level of contact from the start.I hope they can keep that up when they have more properties because they are on to a winner.

The attention to detail is amazing.

We did a lot of looking around for houses that catered for large numbers and West Acre was better value than most.

Mum is 94 and her knees are arthritic. We found the seats were too low for her. The tub seat in the cinema room was perfect.

Hi Kathryn, thanks for the suggestion, the terrace is as you say a real sun trap, however when the weather changes the wind can really pick up here, we have had parasols before fly off the terrace before when not watched. We had such a fabulous time. It was expensive but we got what we paid for.
Daughter was only able to stay on the Friday night and we were given the opportunity to have a later departure on Monday but unfortunately we all had to be at work.
Hosts were so helpful. Spoke to Vicki quite a few times and she texted a lot, giving information on places to eat, even sending menus.

Just fabulous - we had house-envy.
Plenty for all of us to do, and it didn't feel as if there were 14 people in the house as some were playing pool or table tennis, or having a basketball tournament.
We have recommended it to lots of people.

Happy for you to use our photos. We loved playing rounders and the garden is so big there was no chance of losing the ball.
Just an absolutely ideal location. Couldn't ask for any more. Vicki was at the end the phone any time - even answering a text in the evening about hairdryers.

There’s everything you would expect from a grand estate, including: sumptuous architecture and historical interiors, art and antique collections, a 1000 acres of parkland, woodland, gardens, lakes, fountains, exhibitions as well as a busy programme of events all year round. There are also 5 food and gift shops; 4 restaurants; a children’s trail and you can even get an Afternoon Tea ticket! A super day out – but pace yourself and plan at least half a day there.
