The judges were looking for providers that offer the best in self-catering accommodation across the Yorkshire region. The hidden gems where the owners go above and beyond to make their guests feel welcome from the initial booking process through to arriving on site, and ensure they are well catered for during their stay.

The judges said they chose West Acre as “the providers at West Acre clearly went the extra mile and beyond to satisfy and delight their guests in every way, the judges were especially impressed with the range and quality of facilities provided at West Acre”.

The judges were looking for a tourism business, event or venue that puts the customer at the heart of everything they do. They need to show they have gone above and beyond to make sure their customers had an experience/holiday that they would never forget.

This award recognises self-catering accommodation, holiday parks, sites and villages that provide an exceptional guest experience. The awards take place in March 2025.

The property is visited every year by an independent Visit England assessor who assesses and marks every area of the property offering with quality being the key measurement criteria. To achieve a 5 star award the property must achieve an overall score of at least 87% of the maximum score possible, the aim is to score 5 out of 5 in as many areas as possible with no area falling below 4 out of 5. The 5 star award is the highest star rating a Self-Catering Property can achieve and judges the property as “Exceptional with a degree of luxury”.

The gold award is the highest Visit England quality assessment award that can be made, these awards are made to “accommodation establishments that outperform in their category, offering exceptional quality within their star rating. The awards help guests find special places where hosts go the extra mile. Whatever the size. Style or star rating of the accommodation”.
